Werewolves (RP20) When the Mountain Replied
Quote from Adriana on October 15, 2024, 12:21 pmLogan lumbered over dirt and branch, stick and stone, in a slow stride. Ulric's distrustful expression affected her, though she kept her ears high as they swiveled to and fro.
She had conveyed disappointment in the young man earlier this day. Yet, in truth, she was disappointed in herself. She did not see the danger coming, nor arrive on time to be useful when it did present itself. She could not defend Levi against the doubts of his heart and soul, nor Bianca against her monsters. She could say nothing to bring down Saber's anger, and every meeting with Sabrina had been unsatisfactory..
Now the first friend she had among these was angry with her.
She vowed in silence make amends, and to work harder towards earning her title as a defender, and better support Sabrina in achieving the position of Beta. The response the healer received from the other members of the pack was telling that she had their respect- it would be a matter of time before she earned their friendship and trust, if she wanted it.
Logan took note of the voices that did not respond, and locations of the others.
There was closure to be had in regards to Liam, but that was a personal matter; not to be addressed while there were greater dilemmas.
Now she found a familiar scent, and began to follow it. The long panels of cloth that fell between her legs at the front and back were folded in half and tucked neatly so they did not drag on the ground, and she was more careful whilst walking a slow pace to be as silent as she might.
The defender meant to make Kratos aware of her intentions; she did not plan to wander far this night, but with the Svalnaglas intruders, and the threat of them being followed, she felt inclined to examine the territory... but when she did come upon the Alpha, there was a heaviness in the atmosphere that made her stomach sink. She looked on at him with a question in her eyes and a readiness in her toes.

Quote from Indy on October 18, 2024, 4:16 amTheo bowed his head to Sabrina’s words, feeling at once relieved and dismissed. For how intimidating he found the woman just moments prior, he could feel that predatory focus shift elsewhere. He did not envy the newcomer’s predicament, yet he would not even look in Liam’s direction in concern it may once more invoke Sabrina’s attention.
Now granted his other form by the moon, the basket seemed almost comically small in his massive paws. He began to walk on two legs towards the forest, yet stopped on the threshold.
He had spent too many weeks in the solitude of the woods. He had justified it due to the exacting nature of his project there, yet even that excuse would no longer serve- as it was largely completed in his basket. He could brew the tea in peace he supposed, yet this would be a sad thing. Though the making of the tea was a secret thing, it was something meant to be shared with those you were close to.
Standing at the threshold of the pack grounds to the woods, it suddenly felt as though he was very alone in this world. How well did he know the pack ? It seemed not very well at all, especially during the last few months.
It would be easy to accuse others for it, yet he knew better. There were some in the pack he had once been friendly with… and he had as of late been a very poor friend. When was the last time he had seen to Toby, let alone spoken to him? He remembered how concerned he had been back when the young man had faced grevious injuries, and now he hadn’t thought much of him in months.
Shame washed over him. Yet at least the solution to this blunder was easy. He turned away from the woods and towards the cabins, seeking if he could to find Toby’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, something rather enthusiastically watched Logan from the safety of a tree several paces away. It would not be easily seen from the dense foliage, nor it appeared smelled even at a closer distance. With the dawning of the moon, now was the time to practice new skills and Logan would serve as the perfect target. But with the alpha so close, nothing would be attempted for now. So that smug gaze would only watch, waiting to see what opportunities would present themselves.

Quote from Adriana on October 18, 2024, 12:20 pmThe fur along Bianca's spine pricked up at the sound of Timothy's song. Her ears were forward on his location, and her tail was up.
He was pack, or else he would not have joined the call. Yet he was behaving like a hunter, hiding in the shadows. Her nose wrinkled up but she approached the brush and trees with a light step and little growl in her throat, trying to discern the intentions of the striped wolf.

Quote from Mae on October 18, 2024, 12:21 pmKratos' yellow eyes came up and caught a beam of moonlight through the trees. The light changed them in an instant into silvery disks of focused intent. The white tips of his ears raising seemed to be detached in the dark above his head.
His eyes said it. His body said it. His voice did not. "There is an intruder."
****
Timothy did not respond to Bianca's approach, yet... he watched her and waited.
Ulric looked between the two and clenched his teeth. Timothy wasn't acting like a wolf. There was keenness of thought in his eyes, a human cunning, which kept him from simply reacting to Bianca's gestures. The playing field was uneven.
"Heh!" Ulric breathed a fast and hard pant to draw Bianca's attention, if he could. It wasn't quite a bark, just a quick, short breath. He also made a quick forward stomp and gave a playful wag of his tail. All a gesture to say, "Hey, this way!"

Quote from Adriana on October 18, 2024, 1:31 pmTact was not Logan's forte, and she was well aware of it.. therefore her instinct was to run head first into whatever danger might threaten the pack. But she bowed her head so that it was equal with her shoulders and waited for a word with her stubbed tail and ears erect - her gray hackles appearing more thick and bunched for the fur that rose.
She could not be late this time.
"Give me your command," she said, without opening her muzzle.
***
Bianca's eyes shot back towards Ulric, but she kept her gaze on Timothy's position for a moment longer... then turned around, moving closer to Ulric with her ears back and licking towards his chin, her tail giving a short wag as she put her body lower than his neck.
"Nyeehh..."
She whined at him, but turned back around towards Timothy, unwilling to forget about his presence. Her nose twisted up, and her claws dug into the ground beneath her. She did not know what to make of his presence, but was certain Ulric was on her side. She growled towards Timothy, and then whined again at Ulric, licking towards him, before repeating the dance... she was trying to garner Ulric's side on the matter.

Quote from Cat on October 18, 2024, 3:01 pmToby sat quietly by the cabin door as the voices of his companions filled the air. He didn't feel like howling; and besides, nobody said howling after the transformation was mandatory. Still, he knew most wolves liked to do it-- That was why he was out here. He too was counting the voices, and listening eagerly for one in particular. He didn't want to risk howling over her if she called out, so he sat quietly and and listened.
More familiar howls reached his ears, but never the one he was hoping to hear. As the howls gradually fell to silence, Toby's heart and head sank. A very mournful whine escaped his throat, and his blue eyes retreated from the woods to staring at his large tan-colored paws.
...Granny was a no-nonsense, gruff bulldog... But would she really be so cruel as to leave without even saying goodbye? Where would she have gone? Why? He had not seen her since the evacuation of Reknab. He didn't even know if she had made it out. What if she had fallen into the sink hole? She was too ornery to die. She'd be stuck in those dark, wet mines forever. Maybe she was buried up to her neck in mud, or trapped beneath a fallen beam!
Toby whined again.
He knew how to get into those mines without having to jump down a sinkhole. He felt confident that he could navigate the shafts from the true enterance to find the chaos under Reknab Bend, and with the full moon boosting his sense, he could definitely find Granny. But it would be so scary and so dangerous. He didn't want to do something so rash if he didn't have to. ...He'd hoped to hear her voice tonight, for reassurance that she wasn't where he was afraid she was. But he hadn't heard it. And now he had to not only steel himself for a scary search and rescue mission.
**********
Yet another on the mountain was counting the howls, comparing them against the heads counted earlier. A silver and white wolf with striking sky blue eyes. The numbers were climbing, but had yet to match the amount he had seen around the cabins earlier that day. Mentally, he assessed their various distances and the confidence in their voices. Only one or two sounded like they had any power in them, the others were just the bellows of pups released from the cage. The old wolf could see in his mind's eye where on the mountain they were. They did not seem strategically placed.
Good. As of yet, things were going his way.

Quote from Indy on October 20, 2024, 2:44 amTheo saw Toby as soon as he rounded the corner. The basket felt suddenly heavily in his hand once he saw his face and heard the soft whine escape the other werewolf's lips. Theo's tail and ears drooped as he neared, feeling uncertain now in his original mission.
"Uhm... Toby... are you... o-okay?"

Quote from Mae on October 21, 2024, 4:55 pmKratos' ears swiveled. One pointed at Logan, the other to a nearby tree.
The Defender, and the Scout. Neither one had the skill to hunt in a pack, but for the first time they were both attentive and willing to learn. Yet, they were both locked and loaded like a gun, ready to pounce and thrash open their prey. To teach them, Kratos would need the presence of at least one other individual...
Thus, a low, low sound, like the hum of the wind through a hallow, or the distant rumble of thunder, moved out from the alpha and echoed through the forest. Kratos did not lift his head or seem to move to initiate the sound. So it was uncertain at first that it was him, though truly it was.
******
Not far distant, Timothy's ears came up. He had been carefully thinking about teasing Bianca, about leading her off on some chase - Ulric could see it in his eyes, - but when he heard the Alpha's summons, Timothy's attention was caught away. Then he sprang away! His stripes seemed to be inhaled by the woodland branches that were striped with rays of moonlight.
******
Timothy reappeared under the alpha's gaze. His face was solemn and attentive. He expressed no thought in it, save the gauging with his eyes and turning the wheels of his mind to understand the mode and method of the alpha.
Kratos approved of his presence, and in his own eyes, he saw the face of a stranger and friend he once knew. He turned now again toward the disturbed soil...

Quote from Adriana on October 21, 2024, 8:14 pmOne ear and both eyes swiveled towards the same tree without her head moving. Logan cleared her nostrils in a short huff. The lack of fish and all that was telling of Jackie exposed that she was using the plant to hide her scent. Unwise, as her sense of smell was certainly obstructed just the same.
And what was she hiding in the tree for? Logan seemed to deduce the game, and did not appear amused. Both ears went slightly askew before moving forward again with purpose.
Timothy arrived on scene at the same moment Logan licked her nose and stooped to smell the earth at the Alpha's feet. When it turned up no results by scent, she opted to try and see if her tongue could discern anything her nose could not (and since smell and taste are connected, it was unlikely, but it did not stop her from trying).
***
Bianca jumped to attention when Timothy shot off like a bullet, and did not detect the same urgency in the sound that he had. Her ears went to and fro, and she smelled the air for a threat, but could find nothing immediately alarming... however, there were other tempting smells that drew her attention. She started with caution towards the camp grounds.
