Werewolves (RP20) When the Mountain Replied

Sabrina side-eyed Liam, before turning to him and putting a fist on her hip. "Are you?" she asked. "Well, then, start by getting Levi down from off the roof, would you? Then go fetch Ulric from the woods. He smells like the Alpha. He went to answer the old one's call, I have little doubt. Levi does not smell like anything at all, you'll have to use your eyes to spot him. But he was on the roof. I saw him under the moon's light a moment ago. I want all of the younger ones inside. We need a chance to organize ourselves before the hunters come upon us."

She waved Toby and Theo over again.

"Has anyone seen Jackie and Timothy?" she asked, to no one in particular, for she had last seen them with the Alpha, and they were not now. She doubted Theo and Toby had seen them. Bianca would not be able to tell if and when she had last saw them. And the visitor probably did not even know who those names belonged to.

“There’s nobody on the roof…” Liam responded, although he didn’t know who Levi was. Then there was a name he recognized from it’s most recent usage,

”Timothy is the striped one? He was just in the front. Your Alpha is having him look after something with Logan.” now, he didn’t know where Jackie was. The last time he remembered seeing her was after she escorted him to the clearing. He stood up straight.

“Why don’t you gather those fellows, and I’ll look for Jackie. Or do you want me to go chase phantoms for giggles?” he asked, and a furry eyebrow came up.

Sabrina crossed her arms. "There is an intruder. But you are correct in assuming I sent you on a fool's errand: our intruder knows this land better than you. I did not expect you to be able to find them. Now I have given you a specific task, one that is quite doable, and instructions on where to start, and you balk at that request?"

She clicked her tongue. "I'll not be gathering anyone, I'm guarding the ones that are here." She gestured to the two in the clearing behind the cabin, and Bianca on the couch. "So I would very much appreciate you rounding up who you can and bringing them back here. Levi, Ulric, Jackie... Take your pick. Points for each one you bring back here unharmed. Bonus points if you can also find Chime: she has purple hair. Now let's see you prove how useful you are..."

She raised an eyebrow of her own and looked him up and down. "...Or, are not."

Timothy stood on all fours at the edge of the clearing. His clever eyes surmised when Kratos did not come that he'd sent Logan instead, so he waited for her. Then he ducked back into the foliage, quickly and carefully leading her to his findings; a hidden path, many times traversed by the same paws. It looked like it had been there for a month or longer, but it had been used recently. The direction of its user was indistinguishable - it went both ways, with the user sometimes walking in their own tracks, either forward or back it was not known.

Timothy prowled along it, sniffing. He didn't appear to indicate that the direction was relevant, but nor did he appear to be in hot pursuit of anything in particular.

Kratos watched Logan and Timothy return to the woods, then his ear swiveled back to the pit.

"Shhhhh!" Jenn hushed John.

John apparently didn't hear her. "We're in a cave - at a dead end, - our backs against a wall! We're as good as dead in here." He began to fidget restlessly.

Jenn continued to point her flashlight into the bushes. "I don't see anything," she said.

"Well you wont, will you, not til its too late and something comes flying at us!"

"Shshhhhhh!"

Liam bit his tongue at her first part of her lecture.

At her second part of the lecture, he glanced in the back window to see the unconscious Bianca. Then gave Sabrina a look that said it; “the unconscious werewolf, the Alpha and Logan?”.

When she finished, he clicked his own tongue and rolled his eyes.

“Are you hungry? You seem hungry.” he began untying the beasts and laid them down. “I’ll go get your wayward companions, you eat, take a nap or go… fight a bear, if it makes you feel better.” he turned and waved a paw, before dropping to all fours and going in the direction the young men had gone.

A tea party in the woods sounded like such a nice idea: Calming tea, warmed over an open fire, beneath the stars, surrounded by the dark of the woods and silver moonlight. It was such a pleasant idea that Toby felt absolutely no shock nor surprise when it was derailed by Sabrina's sudden demand to return to the cabin. They had intentionally left the cabin following the kerfuffle with Bianca so as not to be involved, or at least, that was what Toby thought.

He was so confused and surprised to discover the one being disciplined by Logan and Sabrina had been Bianca. He thought Bianca was one of the nicer ones... But then again, this was so abnormal and chaotic, it was typical.

The howl from the elderly wolf had triggered Toby's anxiety, but he stayed beside Theo. Theo was a safe place right now, so Toby was going to stick with him.

When Sabrina called though, Toby meekly obeyed and returned to the cabin. He then stood silently and listened while Sabrina verbally decked some stranger-- Seriously, who was that guy? Was he new, or was Toby just not familiar with everyone's wolf form yet? Given his use of 'your' when talking about the alpha, Toby was pretty confident he was new. Then Sabrina inquired after Jackie and Timothy.

As Toby listened, he garnered from the conversation that there was drama in the pack-- AGAIN --and a proverbial storm brewing on the mountain-- AGAIN.

A deep sigh escaped him quite by accident and he found himself glancing longingly at what would've been the spot of their tea party. He then looked back at Sabrina and raised his paw like a child in school, waiting to be called on.

Sabrina's manner cooled. He would get no rise out of her, though some part of her considered sinking her teeth into his insolent flesh.

"Good then," she said, clasping her hands together. "Thank you."

Presently, she turned to Toby. Her manner changed completely, like flipping a switch. She gave him a knowing, even apologetic look, and leveled her gaze with his seriously. "It's not safe tonight. I want the both of you indoors. I still believe the tea is a good idea. See if you can administer some of it to Bianca. She's... She's not herself tonight."

Again, she thought of the howl of farewell, so distant and forlorn. It would yet haunt her. But there was nothing that could be done for it, nothing but keep the pack as safe as she could. So many moons before she had failed--mostly because they tended to scatter to the four winds at first silver light, and from there.... Nothing but trouble.

Tonight would be different. It had to be.

Logan followed Timothy to the hidden path, never as quick or agile, but reaching the same place in her own time.

She studied the tracks with agitation. She compared the paw size against her own. Whoever owned them might have been at their doorsteps-even in the cabins-many times, but the gravel would make it impossible to tell.

How far did the path go? Logan was determined to find out, but Kratos had said her defense was needed closeby.

She investigated it a little more, and paid keen attention to Timothy..

Theo was regretful to turn away from their small, secluded place in the woods in favor for the boisterous activity inside.  He had been resistant to turn inside, having interpreted Sabrina's first howl as 'come to the vicinity' rather than 'come inside' - but nontheless could not ignore the second when she had explicitly called for them.  He trudged inside with his basket of herbs and teapot, while Toby had carried the cups. His tail and face drooped low as they entered.

To him, it seemed a poor way to spend the moon. In his first pack, they had spent it always beneath the sky's splendor and the fresh fragrance of earth beneath their paws. Indoors was a place for man - and tonight, they were not them.  He glanced regretfully at his supplies, feeling them similarly unsuited in a place where the floors were regularly swept and washed.

To Sabrina's explanation, he glanced towards where Bianca had been layed down. Then, in turn, to his humble tea supplies.

"Oh um -"

In his pack, it had always been served where the moon could watch and a warm fire could warm it. Like him, it seemed unsuited to be made on a gas stovetop with the turn of a knob. Although, he supposed, through the window he could imagine the moon still watched...

"O-okay," he shuffled to the stovetop, ignoring how strange everything felt.

But maybe, traditions were meant to be changed too.

He set the pot down and turned the knob.

The voices inside did not fail to delight. Although, she felt explanations of who the pair of humans were lacking.  She did not suppose them just lost campers. Not when they seemed to have a clear idea what she was - although, they could be imagining her a deranged mountain lion. Likewise, she couldn't imagine them as trained hunters. In her last encounter with them, they had not presented themselves as so easily swayed by uncertainty and fear.

She wagged her tail slightly in thought, ears trained forward, as she debated what to do next. As a scout, she should turn back and report her findings... and yet, there was the nagging sense in her mind that she couldn't leave well alone.  Maybe she wouldn't cause harm to them... but who was to say of others? Was it really the right thing to leave them here as they were?

She turned her nose back to the cave, although kept herself entirely out of their sight. She cleared her throat. And in the clearest, most human voice she could muster (which nonetheless was still a fairly husky one), she said, "Go home".

Liam disappeared into the treeline once both young men returned to Sabrina. He noted their crestfallen dispositions, then went to work looking for Jackie-or Levi?-or Chime-whoever he came across first.

Bianca was still sound asleep on the couch..
