Werewolves (RP17) "Where the Moon Meets the Mountain"

"JACKIE! There are kids here!" she said, already getting behind Jackie and putting her hands on her back to shove her to the back door. Really, Bianca was the squeamish one, but anything to get Jackie to be nice.

Kratos concealed his smile at Jackie's rabbits. He did not follow the two into the kitchen, but heard their amusing exchange from the other room.
"Jackie," Kratos said, sounding serious. "Two rabbits and one man are a fine day's catch, but it will hardly feed us. See if you can find some larger game, but stay away from the buffaloes."

Kratos turned around and found himself facing Sabrina. A look of displeasure came to his features immediately. "What is it?" He said.

"Yeah - werewolf kids - it's just nature--," the two murdered rabbits were somewhere on the floor, while the skinned one was still dangling in her palms, "Honestly, weren't you born into this?"

Jackie glanced towards Kratos speaking from behind, resisting Bianca's shoving, "Eh? 'Course, this is just dessert".

She ducked under Bianca's arms, scooping up the two furry bodies into her palms and piling it all in one, "I'll see if Logan will play chef.. makes a decent snack anyways".

She gave one last presentation of the rabbit for Bianca's sake with a wink, then ducked out the door before she could think to make a move.

Tiffany looked solemnly at Ionone.
"Get some rest, sugar." She said. "It's gonna be a long night anyway..."

John did not need Ulric to answer him. He was convinced he was right and seemed to be in a very good mood for it. Of course, he had good reason to be. He was not injured, and he had no cause to fear the coming moon. From his vantage, all was well, despite being in a ditch and surrounded by werewolves of unknown intent. They were that much closer to home.

Bianca stormed to the sink and grabbed a rag to clean the rabbit fur off the floor, mumbling about Jackie being a jerk, rude, insensitive, the whole time... then got to work cooking up elk meat and an herb rice for their prisoners..

---

Logan, meanwhile, had begun to lead Levi up the path away from the cabins and then into the trees that came up behind them and wrapped around the retaining wall..

The clearing in front of the cabins had become quiet. If Ulric was going to ask any questions, now was the right time. Timothy looking on be blown. Yet, Ulric would still have to be careful. The werewolves of Phantom Mountain had children now, and Dakota was standing nearby. Perhaps.. the first question, then, ought to be for him.

"Dakota," Ulric said softly. "Where were you this morning?"

Ionone let her eyes rest but did not yet sleep.  Within, she felt every fiber of her body as she had never before. It throbbed within her.  She knew she had reached her limit, and at once wondered how it was her family had done so much more on so much less. Had it not been her grandfather who had claimed to chase his quarry for over two months with no rest, and drinking only from streams and feeding from shadows?

Not for the first time, she wondered if the stories of the kitsune had lent for embellishment - even within her own family - or if she was truly that weak compared amongst her betters. The sigh was heavy in her chest, but she did not release it. There was no need to bring Tiffany into her own self-pity, and thus she set it aside.

Instead, she turned to practical matters. Looking to Tiffany from the very bottom of her lashes, it was something like a watchful sleep.

"If we get out of this..." her voice trailed. It had been the first time she said 'if', not 'when'. A seed of doubt in her heart, sewn by the frailties of flesh. She let out the sigh she had been holding in.

"Do you truly mean to go back to him?"

Jackie walked back from the cabins and looked about her but found Logan nowhere in sight. Ordinarily, this would not have posed a problem. Ordinarily, she had full command of her sense of smell. But now everything felt muted, soft, and fuzzy as though someone had just obscured most of her vision. It drew more attention to her acute sense of hearing but felt profoundly... human.

How did anyone ever walk around in the stuff? It boggled her and the first occasion she would get, she was going to scrub every inch of it off her body.  However, without Logan around to deal with the more tedious of tasks, this left her to it. She stared at the rabbits and their blank little bunny eyes starred back. There was nothing she hated more than wasted meat and wasted life.

She stalled, looking down into the pit at the prisoners below through the lattice of the fence.

"Hey, ya'll like rabbits?"

She didn't wait for an answer. In a swing of her arm, they were over.... and then the satisfying splat on the other end.

Dakota had been quiet as he watched the group slowly disperse and John's attempt to talk to Ulric. His eyes followed Ulric's and found Timothy's position nearby. He seemed content to observe for a moment, but his eyes seemed to indicate he was watching because something was bugging him. Then Ulric spoke, and he turned towards him.

" At my fathers grave," he responded quietly.

Sabrina did not much appreciate being treated like an annoying fly, even if she was hovering. "May I speak with you a moment?" she glanced past him, towards the kitchen where Bianca had gone. "Alone?"

-

Levi, meanwhile, followed Logan without much of another word, his hands shoved in his pockets and his eyes down, lost in his own thoughts.
