Werewolves (RP15) The Waking Dawn
Quote from Indy on April 27, 2023, 5:55 pmJackie regarded the prey quietly. The space was wide open and if she were to dart straight into the field, then her prey would scatter. The trick was in picking the right target, and the right strategy. In surmising the group, she noted many were young adults with their soft-fawn spotting just barely fading away. The males still had their antlers, but not developed as would a mature adult's. Within the safety of the herd, it would be challenging to isolate the weakest members as they would seek the safety of the center.
She glanced over to Logan to see what tools she had at her disposal and motioned for the axe at her side.

Quote from Indy on April 27, 2023, 6:15 pmJackie took it and looped it through her belt. Without explanation, she began to remove her shirt and hat, until all that was left was a sport bra. She removed her shoes and socks next, setting them by Logan. She regarded her jeans with a shrug, opted to remain in her state of undress, and found a patch of mud ahead. There she stepped in barefoot. She reached her hands into the ground and began to run her muddy palms over her torso, face, and jeans until she was almost entirely covered. She turned to Logan, tapping her nose in question.

Quote from Adriana on April 27, 2023, 6:35 pmLogan observed Jackie with quiet curiosity. She had never hunted outside of her secondary form-the one duty not tasked of her back home, much to her contempt. Meanwhile Jackie had captured her own food more often than it was supplied to her. Logan's own physiology also made it difficult for her to grasp even in her secondary form - she was bulky and did not possess the same stealth Kratos had somehow mastered in spite of his size.

Quote from Indy on April 27, 2023, 7:31 pmOnce satisfied her scent was all but masked in the layers of mud, she brought her body low so she was beneath the tall heads of the grass and crept forward. She came down-wind of the deer and could smell them just ahead, while the mud nearly entirely masked hers in addition to the benefit of the wind. She kept her footfalls as silent as she could, cautiously inspecting where she placed her feet before she did so - however, with her feet bare, it was easy to sense the earth beneath her.
Although not gifted as Logan was in taking her second form outside of the moon, it was not difficult to see some of its grace in the way she moved. Slow, cautious, and lithe it was difficult to imagine in her human days she could have moved as such. Periodically she would pause to watch the deer's progression and ensure they were not at alarm for her advance. She already had her target in mind, and knew she need bare in mind the herd dynamics once she struck so she would not loose sight of it.
She came within fifteen meters of them and the air changed. The deer stirred, although they did not know why. Danger was a thing that waited for them at every moment, and in a nervous air, they began to move subconsciously away although they had not been given reason yet for flight. Jackie advanced, inch-wise, masking the smell of her own breath even with a wad of pungent grasses she had plucked from the field and placed between her lips. She held...
And then the young buck, whose antlers had all but just emerged, in the front startled from a passing bird of prey from over-head. Jackie could have let them go and tried anew in tracking and hunting, but she was an impatient creature. Even in an unsuccesful attempt, to have spent her efforts as such, there need at least be a thrilling chase. She snapped upwards, cutting off the young buck from the head. She saw the whites of its eyes as it bleated.
A deer was faster than her in a contest of open-speed when she possessed only her two legs. However, there was strategy in her approach, however slight, to push the buck towards the lake. Instinct would compel it to avoid open bodies of water where it would not have the advantage, yet in its panic and inexperience, she was betting on it to not share the same wisdom as its elders. She came at it from the side, slowly pushing its feet towards the water - and instinctively it slowed, uncertain whether to break through or not. In its hesitation, she leapt...
Her hands went to grasp it by the antlers, it's head between her arms. She missed by one arm, but grabbed by the other. It bucked, but she side-stepped, and brought her other arm down firmly onto the other antler and driving it's head downwards until she rested its head on her knees.
She panted heavily, recovering her strength, while the animal did likewise to recover it's strength. She could feel the pulse of its powerful heart beneath her fingertips, and the smell of grass and musk in its breath. Excitement thrummed within her - yet as did, strangely, another passing impulse. It was something akin to pity for the beast to be captured, yet she knew herself not a woman for pity. As she carefully used her elbow to hold one side of its antlers against her knee while she reached for the axe, she supposed it was in part regret.
While she would always be a hunter, she had been prey before. Part of her had hoped this prey might have escaped her grasp. Yet to the belly of a hungry werewolf, such thoughts could not be given force. It was the way of nature, and the way of her hunger and desires.
"Au-revoir, jusqu'a la prochaine fois," she mumbled, and the deed was done in minutes.

Quote from Adriana on April 27, 2023, 8:36 pmIf ever there was a spectacle.
Those lavender eyes were pinpricks as she watched. Her head came out from the brush and trees when the other deer scattered. Still she made no move to assist Jackie; the woman was handling the battle with ease. Logan's own heart raced in her chest.
As quickly as it began, it was over. Logan paced over to Jackie and took back the axe, moving to the river to rinse the blood from it. "Your size is a strength. I could not move to the deer without their notice."
She crouched low and picked up the deer so it's legs dangled off either side of her shoulders, and she held it's legs close together. Now she turned her eyes up to the sky; the land was becoming dark and the wind had picked up. "Eh... we will have to take this back, we cannot start a fire now."

Quote from Indy on April 27, 2023, 11:58 pmJackie was still when Logan returned, still holding the limp head of the animal in her lap. She watched her proceed and nodded. Although silence was no longer imperative, no words seemed to come to mind to respond. Once Logan returned, she likewise went down to the river and began rinsing herself of mud and blood. With the cold draft in the wind and the darkened skies, she felt a chill down to her core. She put her shirt and ballcap back on, but only held her socks and shoes under her hands.
She nodded at Logan's conclusion and motioned to the kill, "Would you mind carrying it back? We'll go faster if you do it".

Quote from Mae on April 28, 2023, 3:17 amQuote from Skyelre on April 5, 2023, 3:46 pmNo trace of human or animal tracks were found along the bank of the river the alpha crossed. It appeared if anyone was out there, they had not crossed the river there.
But several yards past the flowing water between the bramble and trees, faint tracks of small shoes could be seen. They disappeared when in contact with the grass and gravel of the land, and reappeared where dirt lay, seemingly to mostly walk along the grass and gravel making the tracks harder to see, but not impossible. One trail headed from the side of the mountain upward towards the peak, while another was seen walking down the mountain until it's trail stopped behind a tree. Being side by side however, the small prints could be seen to be slightly different sizes.
Kratos followed the tracks, but not far... For he came to the head of the overflowing stream, where the banks were cluttered with rocks and boulders carried from the height. There, he lost the tracks completely. So he turned himself homeward. He found, wherever the tracks were clear, the strength and size of his query was known; and from strength and size, age and gender could be guessed. These were children. Whether belonging to the people of the mountain or the creatures of the moon, they were no threat to him. They were not Svalnaglas, although they possessed knowledge of the Phantom Herb, and its properties. To pursue them was to chase a frightened deer too close to the road; greater than the pursuer was the grille of the truck, and greater than Kratos was the mountain. Therefore, Kratos forsook the hunt.
When he came out of the woods, Kratos stopped again and considered the stream. It was now flowing into the field. This branch of the stream was not meant to be here... the river it belonged to was much deeper in the wood, and fed the lake east of Zeit's orchard. Where was this stream going?
A rumble in the sky brought Kratos' eyes up to black clouds that sat like the brim of a hat over the Phantom's head. Then, far away, a siren came up like a cry from Reknab Bend. It pierced the air far and wide, wailing against the sky like one foretelling impending doom. What this alarm meant, Kratos knew Zeit and Toby might be able to say. So he left the field, and returned to Zeit's homestead.

Then a came a sound, ominous and chilling - Logan followed it towards the town, but could not discern anything else. She proceeded onward toward the ranch.
"What thing made that sound?" Logan asked.

"I think it almost got smooshed in the landslide though," she pointed with her other hand to the retaining wall with a small nervous laugh.
"Timothy ran off I think... Sabrina ran off.. everyone else went that way.." she hung her torso over the banister now with a defeated expression, before dropping her head. "Don't you leave me with the new kid, he really hates me already." she said, wagging a finger at Levi, staring at the ground below the banister.
"I think Kratos got shot... or almost did. There's a human living in the mountains, and he busted down her door. Scary, right? How did you meet him?"
Bianca's musings stop short at the sound. From up in the mountains it was faint, nonetheless present. She held her head up and listened. "It's a siren.."
Her eyes shifted to the clouds, and she noticed that they lacked the sickly shade of yellow she remembered... nonetheless, in a blink she had slid her shoes off and changed forms, ears erect.
"Sounds like... a tornado siren...?" she said, hackles raised nervously. "It must be close to the town..." now she climbed over the banister and looked back over her shoulder to see if Levi would follow. "I want a better view, from the hilltops in the fields." she said, then dropped to all fours and shot off!
