Werewolves (RP15) The Waking Dawn
Quote from Indy on April 21, 2023, 3:10 pmJackie hovered over the dirt-impressions of the moon's ever-changing phases Logan had made, tilting her face upright just as Logan had upturned hers. They studied the other, as though searching for the respective changes that had found them in such a short time.
"No," Jackie said so reflexively, it might be considered thoughtless. But then she caught herself in the word, momentarily guarded at its uncertain truth.
"Or maybe I'm not the person to ask," Jackie grabbed the other end of the stick, continuing some of the phases Logan had not yet gotten to, finding a symmetry in the circle she was rarely had time to appreciate, "I've been told what I would be, who I was, where I would be, what I would care about since I was thirteen. I'm not good at free-will".
One edge of her moon smudged, making imperfection in its round shape. She pushed the toe of her shoe over it so she could start it anew, "What's control, anyways? We're all at the mercy of something bigger than us, just tiny fish swimming in the ocean. Sometimes we see something in the tides that frightens us, but just because we didn't see it before doesn't mean it wasn't always there. It just is".

Quote from Adriana on April 21, 2023, 4:50 pmLogan considered Jackie’s words thoughtfully. Her initial reaction surprised Logan. Jackie seemed very much in control of herself- a fact that made her actions unpredictable to all others around her. To hear that she also powerless to some higher fate, was both a relief and a confounding.
Logan inhaled slowly. The musk of the deer was strong, the scent of the apples equally overpowering. Little else would be visible to them through that sense. Her stomach turned in hunger, the primal urge to take hunt after the deer becoming a constant.
Having cast her eyes elsewhere, she returned them to Jackie with her head tilted slightly. “I am descended of the man who was there that day-when you and Timothy were in that pit. The one that took Ulric. You did not see him.. I do not remember much from the battle.”
Little did she know her own mother had been there the same day. How fate teased!
“I do not want Kratos to know. I feel I am traitor here. Although I do not know them, these Svalnaglas, it was alone my fault they came that day.”
Another thought occurred.
“Timothy as well, has been looking for a moment to strike. He does not act where he does not see injustice but I have upset him too many times. I do not fear him, I pity him-yet he is uneasy around me. This in turn, makes the air uneasy for all else.”
A gentle breeze blew through and rustled the leaves.

Quote from Indy on April 23, 2023, 8:23 pmJackie paused over the rich dark earth, leaving an incomplete waning gibbous moon. Her faces tilted to the side, catching Logan by the corner of her gaze, and her expression was both distant and intense in thought.
"Huh," was all she said, then continued to draw as though nothing were the matter.
Another pause. The turned earth muddled the scent of deer, "So guess I'm not the only traitor that Kratos adopted into this pack of his. We're just the pack of misfit toys, superglued and duct-taped until we all fit together".
A shrug, "I wouldn't worry about Timothy. He makes everyone uncomfortable just for being himself".

Quote from Adriana on April 23, 2023, 9:27 pmLogan's eyes glinted and she turned her gaze away from Jackie.
"Do not consider me as yourself." she stated bluntly - the meaning-perhaps-unclear. The tone however, unmistakable.
Standing now, her eyes were diverted to the fields where the deer had gone-her mind transfixed on the hunt. She attempted to transform, but her body trembled and buckled in protest, and she steadied herself on a tree. Jackie's presence was disregarded.

Quote from Indy on April 23, 2023, 9:42 pmJackie dropped the stick. A small tension wormed its way in her fingers and was still, and her eyes flashed briefly to Logan - yet that was all to be said for the anger. She stood, bearing towards the trees where the deer had run.
"I would never," she replied seriously, then added under her breath, "At least I can hunt without relying on a secondary form".

Quote from Indy on April 23, 2023, 10:04 pmHer fingers flexed, cracking each knuckle one at a time. Her gaze was far out across the field, as though searching for the deer.
"Not all of us," her voice clipped sharply, "Have the blood of the werewolf mafia to help us out".
She exhaled heavily, "But clearly, you're exactly like me right now. So deal with it and stop having a temper tantrum about it".

Quote from Adriana on April 23, 2023, 11:55 pm** Combined post to save space - this takes place within the span a few minutes: Logan in violet and Jackie in red **
Logan's nostrils flared and she stood tall. "No... you are right. Will you go get your sister to fight for you instead, divoké oči?"
---
Jackie's eyes narrowed to a sharp pinpoint on some small point on Logan's forehead.
“I fight my own battles," her fingers flexed, "I could take you, right here, right now, in this form".
---
Lavender eyes looked Jackie over slowly. Logan's chin was raised ever so slightly.
"Malý hladný vlk... you could try. You will lose."
---
Her eyes narrowed several centimeters down from her forehead, "Then try. And find out. Could your ego even take loosing to someone like me?"
---
Logan crouched down and dropped the cuff, and removed her jacket. She popped her neck either way and stared at Jackie from a crouch.
"That is what you want? I do not fight the sick and children... I will this once." she said, now an amused look upon her otherwise stoic face. "You must make the first move. We must not alert him." she looked over her shoulder briefly.
---
The effect was instantaneous, a ripple on still pond. Her nose wrinkled and her eyes alighted, but she did not strike. Rather she watched, ready to strike at a moment's notice but for now confining the energy in static motion.
"That's the problem, Logan!" she snarled, not caring about the volume and any possible alerts to the 'him', "Are we friends? Are we enemies? You pity me for being less than you. But I won't fight you to make your ego feel better"
"I'm a worthless orphan screw-up that got tricked into being some mediocre werewolf - but you know what? I don't need your pity for it. Fight me as your equal, or stop whining to me about your problems"
---
An instant change came over Logan's demeanor. She looked over Jackie's face as the fiery headed woman spoke, taking in her words and considering them.
Slowly she approached, shoulders squared and face stoic.
" You-" she grabbed Jackie by the collar of her shirt and bent over just slightly, "-have told me nothing. Am I not here always? The days are long and wasteful." she said disdainfully, "I will listen, yet you do not trust me - you come not to me. Are you my equal, are you my friend? How am I knowing this? I do not know who you are".
She loosed Jackie's collar and turned away, walking back to the tree to pick up her items, returning them to their places on her body.
"How ever... you are not worthless."
---
Jackie tensed as Logan approached, anticipating a strike - only to her surprise to feel something almost like comfort as she was grabbed by the collar of her shirt. She moved to speak, then was quiet - then tried to speak a second time, and found no words. Several moments inched by and Logan had already gone to retrieve her items, yet for once in her life she was at a loss for words.
"It's not that I don't trust you," she said after a time. She glanced down and retrieved her half of the stick, but only etched into the earth idly now, "I have a hard time speaking of my life before..."
She glanced skyward, "I don't know who I am. I thought I did, once. I thought I had a purpose to serve someone. Now I don't have that. All I have left is my sister, and this pack".
---
Logan's back was still turned as she replaced her jacket.
"I have met no-one here who is not my equal or greater. My strength alone is in my arms and back. Yet Kratos is stronger in one arm than is in my body. The small Chime's strength is in her heart, Ulric is wise, Timothy is loyal. Yet you think I am strong. You think I do not believe in you. You have been through much yet still stand, your strength is there.. You are strong, only-you do not know the meaning of strength."
---
Jackie was quiet. No words came to her. She watched the turning of foliage in the breeze, and a nervous hare dart across the field as a hawk circled overhead. Her heart stilled as the excitement of an oncoming fight waned. She became aware of her own fatigue, in spite of the good night's rest that Sabrina had insisted upon.
"To me... strength was what other people could take from you, what you could offer them or do for them," her breath staggered, "I don't want it to be that way. I.... thank you Logan"
---
Looking back at Jackie, Logan's shoulders relaxed, as did her expression.
"I am hungry and tired. Will you help me hunt?"
---
Jackie nodded. The sun overhead still was bright, and there was daylight left for the day's errands... and in her heart-of-hearts, she yearned for nothing more than a simple day with a simple task.

Quote from Kaqurei on April 27, 2023, 3:30 pm"Aye, I s'pose it is," Levi said, and he meant it. He approached the banister and rested his elbows on it, looking out at the view from the porch. The mountain air was still fresh and laced with hints of rain. He smiled a little. "Almost peaceful up here sometimes, innae it? When you just look around, I mean. Outside, instead of inside."

Quote from Adriana on April 27, 2023, 4:42 pmBianca rested her chin in her palm and nodded, following Levi's eyes out to the mountains. "I think it almost got smooshed in the landslide though," she pointed with her other hand to the retaining wall with a small nervous laugh.
"Timothy ran off I think... Sabrina ran off.. everyone else went that way.." she hung her torso over the banister now with a defeated expression, before dropping her head. "Don't you leave me with the new kid, he really hates me already." she said, wagging a finger at Levi, staring at the ground below the banister.
"I think Kratos got shot... or almost did. There's a human living in the mountains, and he busted down her door. Scary, right? How did you meet him?"
- - -
The deer would have already made good distance. But regardless of form, Logan and Jackie possessed greater tracking abilities than any man. The rain made the earth telling to boot - the tracks were easily followed. They had bounded their way across Zeit's eastern most field, towards the wide river that ran through the clearing north-east of her cabins. Logan was silent as she neared the clearing. The deer were uneasy and did not settle, their ears and eyes up, but tentatively began to nibble the grass in the clearing. Logan looked to Jackie, her eyes asking the question, how will you hunt them?
