Werewolves (RP15) The Waking Dawn
Quote from Cat on August 19, 2022, 8:18 pmToby stood still as a statue, completely forgotten by both Alpha and Beta. He remained where he stood for several minutes, watching the pair unload Zeit's truck, then chanced a step to the side. Neither of them glanced at him. He chance another and another before finally getting the courage to turn from them altogether. As he did so, however, they turned. Toby froze. But their attention still wasn't on him, they were heading for Zeit's house.
Toby heaved a sigh of relief, ready to excuse himself. Yet as Kratos and Zeit passed behind him, Toby overheard a snippet of their conversation:
"I was at the peak. I found the remains of an old bridge that spanned the gully at the reach of Deadman's Trail, and evidence of a truly numerous pack that once existed here."
Toby felt his stomach clench and the world around him spin violently for a second. He almost lost his balance and fell over, despite having been standing perfectly upright and still. Kratos and Zeit continued on toward the house, never giving the omega a second glance. Toby felt his face go hot as his mind raced, the alpha's words repeated over and over in his head.
How was he supposed to tell him? How was he supposed to tell any of them? He didn't have Granny's grit. Even after three months, he hardly knew anybody in the pack and trusted less than half of them. Now he was supposed to reveal this secret-- This huge secret, to them?! Were they even worthy of it? Was he even worthy of it?
Toby lifted his glasses and rubbed his eyes, trying to clear his head. As the lenses returned to their place in front of his face, Toby found his gaze turned upward at the aforementioned peak. It was humbling to see the majesty of the mountain combined with the knowledge of the secret it contained.
Taking a deep breath, Toby lifted a foot and made a motion to resume his trek up the mountain.

Quote from Adriana on August 19, 2022, 10:20 pmThere was a lot Logan wanted to say and ask. Instead she led in silence.. If it were uncomfortable to her, it was only in light of all the things she wanted to say-but for whatever reason, something held her back. Perhaps some foresight, and a good dose of pride. Ulrics companionship was something to consider as well. Of her few allies, he was one… even if todays actions puzzled her.
Instead, she took note of her surroundings-trees, still green a few days ago, now brown and shedding their leaves. Broken limbs strewn about the path.. the thick mud made the walk more difficult than it usually was.

Quote from Indy on August 19, 2022, 10:24 pmJackie said nothing. The path looked much the same as it had when she had taken the jog to the ranch the other day. And yet it was different too - a dark knowledge hung in the air. More than what she had seen on the mountains, more than her sister's letter and nebulous clues, even more than the terse silence that stretched between her and Logan, was the feeling of something amiss. She could not put her finger on it, only name the feeling that unsettled her.
As they passed out from under the dappled trees, she removed the sunglasses from the top of her head and slipped them over her eyes. She squinted ahead down the dirt path, eye-balling a rather surly cow out in the pasture. Then towards the porch, squinting against the sun...
"Huh... is that...? I thought she was dead".

Quote from HourGlass on August 21, 2022, 6:38 pmZeit's frown reappeared at the last of Kratos' words. The idea of another pack invading her land was not a wanted one, she would need to do something to try and help keep others away and out. It didn't help that while there were cabins for the rest of the pack, her cottage was the first real place to great any guests.
She watched Kratos leave, knowing they would be talking about it more later, until a small movement caught her gaze. She looked to Toby, though her expression was more curious than anything. Spending time away had softened the beta, slightly, least in a way, the pack was now the family she was closest too.
She made a small humming sound, before speaking. "Toby was it?" She called out, "If you're free, wanna help me move an old chest. It'd be easier with two, I'll even throw in some of my grandmother's baking as a treat for helping."

Quote from Adriana on August 22, 2022, 8:15 pmJackie was naturally faster paced. And in spite of Logan's earlier sense of urgency, she did have faith that Jackie truly intended to speak with Kratos. It showed in her easy gait.
She could already smell Jackie on the wind-faint, muddled with cattle and earth and bark. "Ulric," Logan said, she could still hear the Little Alpha's steps behind her.
"I feel I should say... two days ago, that mountain," she looked back with a nod of her head towards the Phantom Mountain peak, "tried to throw me down and drown me with the worms. I was saved.. by a woman - I remembered her scent. Maybe-it was a dream.." she contemplated. "Although, I think she was of that pack, that you came from. If that is true, why did she help me?"

Quote from Cat on August 22, 2022, 8:28 pmHearing his name, Toby felt ice go threw his veins and froze accordingly. In his mind, he despaired at having not been forgotten, then steadily began to wonder what hidden agendas could be behind Zeit's seemingly harmless request:
Move a chest? Why did Zeit want his help moving a chest? Their hulk of an alpha, who could carry it balanced on one finger, was standing right there! With the accompanying offer of treats, it just felt like a trap. Maybe they just wanted to get him upstairs, where they'd shut the door and lecture him about his stupid mouth mentioning the Phantom Flowers! ...Kratos and Zeit seemed like reasonable people, so they probably wouldn't kill him... Probably. But they might permanently glue his mouth shut-- Oh no! What would he do then?! They'd glue his mouth shut, thinking he never said anything important anyway, when here he was needing to tell them the most important thing they'd ever hear in their lives! Sure, he could write it down but-- But what if he couldn't write fast enough to maintain their attention, or they couldn't read his handwriting? They'd tell him to stop being ridiculous and never know what he had to tell them, so Toby would give up trying. Then that awful Snaggle-Fast pack would sneak in, and they'd find what Toby wrote instead! THEY'D work it out and get the secret instead. Oooh, the mountain wouldn't like that! Toby would be doomed. Everyone would be doomed!Toby blinked. Then hastily, albeit stiffly, made his way toward Zeit's porch. "Sure." He said awkwardly once in ear shot, "I have something important I need to tell you two anyway."
Ah-ha! Yes! Intrigue. That'll keep them from gluing his mouth shut. He just had to keep them curious about what he has to say long enough for him to tell them everything. ...But wait. What if they thought anything Toby could possibly deem important wasn't intriguing enough?
"It's about Granny-- Actually it's something she told me to tell you."
Eh... Not exactly true, but not exactly a lie either..

Quote from HourGlass on August 31, 2022, 7:19 pmZeit was a bit confused by the boy in front of her for a moment, he seemed rather lost in his thoughts, and it his facial expressions and the awkward silence were anything to go by... She had absolutely no idea what he was thinking. She stared at him for a moment, still confused even after he spoke, before giving a slow nod.
"Alright... Well, Kratos will be back once he cleans up, you can tell us then, I guess" she said before adding, "Shouldn't be long, gives me some time to get some tea going before we open the chest and see what's inside anyways."
She paused, before giving one more firm nod, before turning and heading into her cabin, uttering "come on in when you're ready" as she moved, grabbing her luggage on the way. She was quick to place the baked good tins on the kitchen table, leaving her suitcase right bit it before taking a quick look around. Everything just seemed a bit dusty, nothing some light and a touch of tlc wouldn't fix.
She moved with a familiar rhythm as she found her teapot, filling it and setting up the stove to boil some water before heading off to her room. Along the way she paused, opening up some of the curtains of nearby windows to let light in, and opening one to help with the stuffiness that can with a home that had been unused for a period of time. Her last stop was at a side door, close to her room, the door to a small storage area. The room was pitch black when she opened it, causing her to feel around for the light switch for a moment so she could actually see what was inside.
Her nose wrinkled a bit at the musty smell, but it didn't stop her as she began to move a few boxes around to uncover a hand carved, wooden chest. Along its planes were carefully carved wolves and scenery that seemed to match the local area, with intricate pieces of metal framing the box. On the front was a small lock, one she kept the key for almost always on her person.
"Now, what secrets do you hold.." she said to herself, beginning to try and pull the chest out on her own.

Quote from Cat on August 31, 2022, 8:40 pmToby was careful to wipe his feet before entering, and to grab anything that Zeit may have left on her porch, but whatever mud that may have been left on him from being in such close proximity to Kratos had completely slipped his mind. The lanky lad stood awkwardly in the main room, watching as Zeit went about her business. He didn't want to follow her from room to room like a lost puppy, so he tried to determine by watching her movement, when she would be heading to a room of importance. When that seemed the case, he finally followed.
Thus as Zeit reached for the old chest, Toby was there beside her and ready to help. He had absolutely no confidence in his ability to lift the chest, but nevertheless attempted to help Zeit move the chest.

Quote from Indy on August 31, 2022, 10:24 pmCrunch... crunch...crunch...
Down the hall and in the kitchen from where Zeit and Timothy gathered, something busied itself with something evidently quite tasty. The presence did not announce itself however - neither in smell, nor in a voice called out.

Quote from Mae on August 31, 2022, 10:46 pmUlric walked solemnly beside. When Jackie made mention of someone at the ranch, he scrunched up his nose and tried to see who it was but in vain. Ulric's eyes were not yet healed from having hit his head in the cave, though his vision was much improved... at least, he no longer saw the world in red and crimson hues.
After a moment, he gave up trying. Ulric's attention returned to the gravel underfoot and Logan's curious question ahead. He looked up. Someone came up with Diane and helped Logan? - after hurting her. Who could it be and what could they mean by it? Ulric knew the Svalnaglas to both save and destroy for their own gain. If he were to guess the motive of the individual, the identity and faction of the secret heroine would first have to be determined. Luckily, that was an easy task among the Svalnaglas' own.
"Did you see her face?" Ulric asked. "Was there a white mark? What did it look like?"

Kratos retired to the fields behind the house. The pond and streams had all risen with the recent rain, and were all filled with mud. It would do no good to get cleaned up there. Nonetheless, to the stream that ran in the woods beyond the back field Kratos went. He saw Jackie, Ulric, and Logan approaching form afar, though they did not see him. He passed into the wood grove and was seen by none.
