Werewolves (RP15) The Waking Dawn
Quote from Indy on July 20, 2022, 10:59 pmAs the breakfast table was deserted, Theo found himself somehow very close and very far away at the same time. Something in the taste of the pancakes, fresh and hot, something in the way the sun was filtering through the window, something in the way he sat casually to those he cared about.. it brought him to a different place entirely.
To the days before his father had made beta and they were all still happy. His father would make breakfast while his mother made the tea- sweet smelling herbs hanging in the kitchen porch, their fragrance billowing forth from the wind. His mother would tell the stories of their people, so perfectly woven you knew they must be true. Sometimes, they would smile, and sometimes they would hold together in a shared, solemn silence: but always they were together. And then the morning would grow old and they would each disperse their different ways, but those early hours were always a thing held sacred.
At least they had been. Back when they were still happy.
From across time, Levi’s voice called out - and Theo visibly flinched back to the here-and-now.
“Oh - um…the hunter and the healer, r-ight? I don’t know, we never got to hear how it ended…”
There was something that unsettled him about the story, which he could not find the words to convey to Levi. The way Tammy had spoken her story had been exactly like how his mother always told hers: spoken in such confidence, you had no doubt they must be true. But what wasn't theirs to know, for the story had never finished...
He caught sight of Bianca just as she collapsed against the sofa.
“Oh - um, Bianca, I forgot to say… thank you for breakfast,” he blushed, more words tangling up in his throat.

Quote from Mae on July 20, 2022, 11:39 pmWhat happened after Normandy? Ulric didn't ask. For ten years of his life he was passed from social worker to foster care and back again. Something special happens when you're ten years old. Somehow you're a child too young to understand and too old to be oblivious.
"Hold on a minute, Logan..." Ulric stopped and looked at Jackie seriously. "Jackie, what trouble is Melinda in?"
"I know this is a really, really awkward place to have out with it. But we need to hear the whole story. I know what it's like to run - from family. I've run from mine too. - My family attacked Logan in this exact spot three months ago, and I still can't say they're not my family. When you're raised in a werewolf pack their blood is your blood - by birth or bite. We're bound together. By that law, you are Theo's family. Charlie is mine. But how much we're willing to act on that fact is our choice. I promise you, if you have loyalty to her than Melinda is as good as our flesh and blood too. Just let us help you."

Timothy wasn't far from the kitchen when Bianca came downstairs. Once again, she disrupted his attempts to eavesdrop on the conversation at hand.

Quote from Adriana on July 21, 2022, 12:09 pmLogan did stop at Ulrics request, and listened. He had heard Jackie in a way she hadn’t. Logan assumed (that foresaken word) that Jackie was speaking in broad, general terms-in regards to her sister. Ulric discerned otherwise, and in doing so, brought Logan back to the urgency of what Jackie was actually saying.
It was humbling. She waited to see if Jackie respond, but her gaze was averted down and to the side-not in shame as much as trying to be focused on the words.

Quote from Indy on July 24, 2022, 10:29 pmThe answer to Ulric's question was not words, but a feeling. The smell of boiled over blood beneath the musk of wet earth. The restlessness of needing to run a thousand miles in the woods in a single night, and yet being unable to move. The agony of slowly pulling oneself apart, fiber by fiber, as though you were a ragdoll that needed it's stitches redone. Her fists curled over into her palms, making hard indents, containing a feeling that could not be easily conveyed.
She held a breath in her chest, gathering the pressure until it felt as though her lungs would pop - then slowly released it in a steady measure.
Just let us help you.... such offer had been made to her by Sabrina. Had that been help? She wasn't sure. And yet there was little doubt the pack would fight tooth and nail for their own. A belonging that wove it's way not just into her nature as werewolf, but into a deep ache which panged down to her very soul. It was a hunger that had been built in absence, a craving for that which had been denied, withheld, rationed - and it was never enough...
She released the tension in her knuckles one by one.
"The one I called father..." she murmured, softly, "The one who made me who I am... who groomed me to be one of you... Melinda is going to die trying to protect me from him".

Quote from Kaqurei on July 26, 2022, 5:07 pmA subtle discomfort creeped over Levi, drawing him back into his shell no matter how he tried to ignore it. He didn't know why until he followed Theo's gaze to Bianca, and saw a glimpse of a retreating Timothy instead. His stomach clenched. But he didn't say anything. Just smiled pleasantly at Bianca and nodded his quiet thanks in companionship with Theo's spoken one.
"I didn't do anything," Saber said...
"Did I accuse you of doing anything?" Sabrina asked. "You asked me if I know anything about them. And so I ask of you: what do you know about them? There are a lot of werewolf packs. Before I am to tell you anything about them, it would help to narrow down which one you need to know about, and any details you can give me about them would do just that."
He was reaching for the note, straining from the pain of doing so. She wasn't sure he was listening. But she was patient. She would wait for him to regain focus. To open up again, even if just a little.
"Painkillers?" she asked. There was something of a smile, just a shadow of one, pulling at one corner of her mouth, so that the dimple in her cheek started to show. "Not the kind you're used to in Pinerich, I'm sure. But I can bring you something."

Quote from Deleted user on July 26, 2022, 6:23 pmSaber was too tired for this. He ignored Sabrina and her claim to an innocent inquiry. His brain may of been moving like molasses but his hearing was sharp and he knew what she had said.
There was no change to Saber's face from reading the note Bianca quickly had scribbled down for him. Instead he looked back at Sabrina who was now giving a half amused smile as she spoke.
" As long as it doesn't cause a reaction or kill me, I'll take it," he said, trying not to let it show how much Sarbina's smile annoyed him.

Quote from Adriana on July 28, 2022, 4:30 pm"You're welcome," Bianca responded, glancing to Theo with her head hanging over the back of the couch. "Tell me something-you've been here longer than me... is it pretty much the normal to get accustomed to asking yourself what's going to happen next, or an uneasy feeling in your gut when nothing is happening at all?"

Quote from Adriana on July 31, 2022, 8:41 pmCalled father. Made me who I am. Groomed me to be one of you.
Logan didn't understand the implication of all of what Jackie was saying. It was vague-even by Logan's standards. It left more questions than answers. Always more questions than answers. Did her father make her into a werewolf? Was it her father or only a man she called father?
Logan exhaled a terse, frustrated breath and looked to Ulric - she needed him to clarify what was said, or ask the right questions. It was frustrating, and made her feel dense. By that law, you are Theo's family. Was Theo, the quiet young boy, the one who changed Jackie, or did Jackie change Theo? How did all of these people, seemingly as strangers to one another now as they had ever been, even come to be a "family", as Kratos so often insisted?
This time, she wouldn't wait for Ulric to intervene for her.
"I am sorry." Logan spoke up. "I am.. being selfish. We have not understood each other well, since the beginning.." she said, slowly, thoughtfully. "Please - can we go back inside, and speak openly? We cannot be as a family without trust, and we cannot trust without understanding. There is so much I do not understand. I am sorry."
She approached Jackie slowly. "Please come and sit down." she said, with one hand towards Jackie and another outstretched towards the cabin, albeit loosely.
