Logan studied the angles of the point, and began smoothing them out.
"It is not the language of the beasts... they speak in emotion. Some beasts do not utter a sound, but live their lives in silence-and still exist. It would be better, I think, if some humans too would speak less and observe more."
Now she paused, looking intently up towards Jackie with a shadow cast over her brow.

The smile faltered slightly, yet returned albeit with a bitter edge. She assessed Logan in a sweeping glance as though calculating a complex math equation. Then she sighed.
"And why do you think I didn't speak that?"
Her gaze turned inwards, glancing at the small green sprouts of green that had survived the thick layer of dead leaves, "Let me tell you the language you spoke: fear. So I had to apologize for it so she wouldn't take offense"
Lazily she pulled away some of the leaves near a young shoot, "I do listen. Maybe try listening to me too"

There was a long silence.
"I listen. But you speak too many words for me to hear you."
She looked at the point of the weapon, then pressed her thumb into it, pleased when she found it sharp enough to pierce flesh. She folded the blade of her knife into its handle and tucked it carefully in her pocket, glancing up to Jackie to study her response.

To this she merely sighed, throwing up her hands in accepted defeat, "Of course".
She stood all at once and walked a few yards to the right, as though at that moment a very particular tree needed to be seen. It was a handsome tree, a young oak with a golden hue of leaves. But upon reaching it she turned, running her hands against the coarse bark, and throwing her weight against it. Suddenly for all her energy she sagged against the bark, slowly falling until her butt touched the ground.
"So are we hunting something or what?"

Logan nodded, planting the butt of the spear into the ground and standing. She glanced over her shoulder briefly, in the direction they had left the bison, before walking up to the tree where Jackie sat and offering her hand to help the other up.

Jackie took the hand offered, lifting herself up quickly. She looked on distantly, as though fixating on something very far away, but in reality something very close.
She held out an arm and pointed, "I want the spear".

"Guys?" Bianca called, her hands cupped over her muzzle. She had long left the pool where Sabrina remained-going in search of the boys who had gone elsewhere in the mountains to prepare for the night.
A lack of company never did suit her, and when interactions grow stale, she would find herself seeking the next lively engagement. Invasive? Maybe-but surely among the mens group, which was made up of many more people, there would be someone to talk to.
"Ulric? Toby?" she called again, then huffed a sigh. Then she decided to find them the best way she knew how- and, ears pinned back, she lifted her head to let out a call.
Where are you?

Whether or not it was noticed, there was a curious thing about that oak standing so tall on the side of the mountain: It was the only one of its kind within miles.
******
Meanwhile...
Kratos frowned as he once again found himself looking down the end of a barrel. His chest rose and fell slower than most men, owing to the size and capacity of the instrument on which the rifle was aimed. His bright yellow eyes never faltered.
"Your signs are subtlety." The Alpha said at length, "But your meaning is obvious."
Now, the Alpha moved with less care of the rifle. It was no longer a surprise to him. He would give the woman her space as she demanded, for that was a courtesy, but the warning was now an echo of former things.
Kratos stepped away from the woman's house and looked around. The grounds were kept clear of foliage and debris, though the obvious nature of the woman's dwelling and the essentials for living in the mountains were visible around every corner. Once again, the giant's chest rose and fell as he lifted his chin in the air. The absence of scent of any kind remained an notable fact.
"I am not come to plague you, though I should make myself a nuisance at present for the sake of my curiosity." He said. "You are aware of our presence, yet you have made no attempt to my knowledge to be rid of us, and still you conceal yourself from both man and beast in the mountains. From this I can only imagine that your philosophy is to live and let live, if so, you need not be afraid of me."
Kratos looked at the woman again, having gone some ways from her and to the west.
"I seek knowledge only, and a history of these mountains so that I may better protect it." He said. "As you are aware, I do not, nor can I, learn its history as I am accustomed by nature, such is the virtue of your habitat, but such also permitted the rogue to go about his carnal thievery unknown. He took refuge in the oaks beyond the Chandler ranch, where the scentless-ness is most concentrated, and there he remained until his death. Had it been otherwise, he would have been discovered by his own race and terminated at an earlier advantage to the people of this countryside."
"It would be a benefit to us both to learn from one another, for I do not intend to remove myself from these lands at this or any other time."
As he concluded, the cry of a wolf echoed through the darkened boughs and made the air feel hollow and ever more cold.

Logan knit her brow and looked at Jackie, glancing at the spear and back to the woman. Slowly she turned to face Jackie directly, raising her chin and making herself look larger than she already was.
After a brief moment, she lowered her knees just so, making herself eye level with the fiery haired woman. A small and still unmistakable, taunting smile made itself present in her stoic features.
"Then take it." she responded evenly, suddenly ducking to the side and bolting off into the woods in a blur of black and tan!

The woman watched him, distrusting. She wasn't jumpy by any means, her presence was an unwavering solid. Still, without anything needing to have been said, there was the ever present sense that she could and would at the slightest misstep trespassing her personal boundaries cause quick and irrevocable damage. Her finger was still on the trigger. But she tolerated his presence. For now.
"You wanna know 'bout the plant?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "Ya think that'll help you?" She forced a laugh, though it was more of a huff through her nostrils. "I ain't the one you gotta ask, if you wanna know about that."
A shudder passed through her at the sound of the howl. She clutched her weapon tighter and her face darkened. She looked at Kratos square, her brow creased in anger and her mouth turned down hard, forcing frown lines at the edges of her lips. "Sounds like one of yours got trouble, so you'd best go and see to 'em. You wanna talk to me? Next time announce yerself. I don't take kindly to surprises, and you're lucky as ol Saint Patrick you don't got a few holes through your noggin when I first seen you."
