Werewolves (RP 9): The Song of the Mountain - Part 1

Sabrina nodded, satisfied. She withdrew her hand. "That will do," she said simply. "One side of you understands that much. Soon, very soon, we shall have to teach the other side as well. A wolf is easier to manage when he has something to follow. Some, however, do not follow easily."
She thought for a moment. She looked at him, some kind of wistfulness in her gaze. "My name is Sabrina. What is yours?"

As Sabrina spoke, a few thoughts crossed Saber’s mind; But just like most of the conversation so far, he gave no facial cues as to what they were. Instead he quietly listened as the woman introduced herself. “ Saber,” he responded back at the inquiry of his own name.

Relief flowed from Ulric's heart the moment he knew he was not alone. Darkness could have reigning power over his eyes, and perhaps something still slept unseen near his feet, but at least he was not alone.
Ulric crept as close to Jackie's voice as he could manage, and reaching the cold stones in front of him he pressed his hands against the wall. It was futile to climb, and who knew if there was an ever deeper crag behind him waiting to consume him if he slipped.
"Jackie?" Ulric breathed softly. "Can you see the moon?"
Perhaps Ulric feared the danger imposed on the rest of the pack at the coming of the moon, but more than anything it was the comfort he sought in knowing there was still some light somewhere.

Something flickered in Sabrina's eyes. "Interesting," she said, and did not say much else on whatever she had considered.
"Would you care to see it done, before the moon?" she asked. The light was fading, sun sinking and storm rolling in, a dark frothing mass of clouds churning in the skies. They didn't have more than perhaps half an hour or so before the change would take Saber, and whatever part of him that was human and afraid, past all reason. Then she would get to meet his wolf--or what the wolf had influenced in him. First generations could be such a wildcard... one could gain very little understanding of what the wolf would be like from the human side of the consciousness. Something like a split personality. Sometimes the personalities were compatible. Sometimes not. The ones who were lucky enough to suffer a bite by a like-minded wolf would have an easier time adjusting to their inner wolf. But, in her experience, the more the personalities contrasted, the more difficult the transition, the control.
"I do not wish to stir unpleasant feelings, or memories of the night you were attacked, but that is inevitable at this point."

Levi was already in wolf form. Had been, most of the day, actually. His jackrabbit-coloured form loped easily across the mountain terrain, with not much caution or care in his step. He was perfectly at ease, one could tell that at a glance, even as he stopped for a moment to sniff the ground, then raise his head and look out over the valley. He didn't much mind the fading light or the coming storm. They were advantages to him. Always had been. His business was to be out of sight and sound; the oncoming conditions lent advantage for both.
Yet, for now, he was not sneaking so much as seeking. Chime was doing well. For half a moment he suspected she may have actually gone and ditched him, crept off to find some more interesting company, perhaps. He'd been surprised at the start she'd humoured him when he'd asked her earlier if she'd like to learn the ways of stealth and spying. But she'd done more than that. She seemed.... well, genuinely interested. And, if she still lingered near, showed quite a natural talent for how quickly she'd caught on.

Slowly a smirk spread across Saber’s face. “ What? Do most find that first werewolf attack traumatizing?” Saber snickered. “ Personally I found it exhilarating. Go ahead, do your little transforming act, you don't have to worry about triggering any “unpleasant feelings” here.”

Jackie huffed, throwing a glance over her shoulder to the impending storm clouds. She wasn’t looking forward to scaling down the mountain in the rain. It would be a long and slippery path.
"Not really, there’s a storm coming. But don’t worry, we’re close to crazy town," she grumbled darkly. She could feel it — they all could feel it, storm clouds or no storm clouds.
She detected more fear in Ulric's soft voice than she wanted to. She fumbled at her belt a moment and removed two lengths of rope that had once tethered together the rabbits by their feet. She secured one to the other with a square knot, looking most pleased at the product.
"Alright, we have a date to keep so I’m going to be getting you out of this hole now, if you don’t mind," she regarded her rope and shrugged, "Maybe you can reach the end of this, and then I can try and pull you up while you climb the walls".
She dropped it down the shaft, seeing how far down it spanned.

Chime did indeed linger near, concentrating carefully on the task at hand. She was more than interested, she was thrilled! Though perhaps it wasn't entirely the subject, she was excited that Levi approached her with the offer to teach.
Staying out of sight, she thought of the pointers he have given her, and did her best to be put them in practice. Feeling her heart beat heavily in her chest, her adrenaline . Was he just pretending to not notice her? She must have made a million noises by now- oh no, he's stopping!
Circling as she slowed, she cocked her head as she watched. Her tail wagged a couple times, before stopping as she internally panicked. Oh thank goodness, she was still upwind. Honestly, this was like an extreme hide and seek! And it was really fun, and well, terrifying. Relaxing, she took a step only to tense up again as a twig found it's untimely demise under her foot. Well snap, literally.

Instantly his head whipped around to face where the sound had come from. He was still a moment. Then he flashed a wolfish grin and laughed, entirely good naturedly. "Ah, but you are getting it!" he exclaimed, prancing over to her, his own tail high and giving a wag or two.
"Y'see, but that 'appens, isnae help fer it, so make it work fer ya. Y'see? 'Ere in the woods, twigs snap. It could be a squirrel, a bird, so it didnae matter a'tall. But yeh mustn't stand by it an' wait fer your man t'see yeh. Here, take a gander at this."
He stepped back to match his paws where hers had stood before, and purposefully stepped back to snap another twig, and, just as soon as the noise was made he kicked the dirt hard, sending a clump flying into the bushes behind him. Before it'd even landed, he'd ghosted forwards and around, careful to step on nothing and maneuvering his body through the underbrush like a creature made of liquid so as not to disturb the foliage by his movements. Then he stopped, almost half a circle away from the offending twig, in a few seconds. He paused a moment for effect, then stepped out of the brush.
"See, an' now aem standin' behind our man, whilst he's seerchin' that lot there fer the sound. Misstep? Misdirect."

A humorless smile curled Sabrina's lips. But she said nothing. Almost imperceptibly, the green shifted to yellow, and she loosened her clothing, walking towards him. Her body shifted as she moved, from the bridge of her nose glossy white fur streaked up her face and down her neck, her ears lengthened to a point and shifted up to the top of her head, which by now looked more like a white fox or wolf than a woman--the eyes still staring straight at him. Her height had changed, she'd gained a foot or two and considerable sleek muscle mass, but she'd bent forward to stand on all fours so as to be able to be staring him right in the face rather than towering over him had she remained standing on two feet.
It was done in seconds. Where once stood a woman, now stood a white wolf--or wolfish creature, anyway. Easily bigger than a bear--taller, anyway, for the body was sleek and aerodynamic, clothed still in her white garb. It hung looser about her neck and shoulders, she'd tightened it about her new waist as the change was completed. Her eyes gleamed golden, seeming changed and not, for the human consciousness and consideration was still there, though the calculative wiles an intensity of a hunter's gaze sharpened to a point.
"Exhilarating," she repeated with a grin, the glint of her teeth showing behind her parted black lips, breathing into his face. "Fear is not always running away, Saber." She circled around him, her long white tail brushing up against the side of his face. Like the change itself, her movements were fluid, effortless, like a snake. "Sometimes it hides. Sometimes it denies. Sometimes... it fights. It is better to not be afraid. Accept it. Embrace it. This..." and she paused a moment lifting her head to look down across her form as she circled, then at the ground surrounding them, the trees, the sky. She stopped in front of him again, eyes fixed on his. "...Is who you are."

Saber tried to stand his ground as Sabrina transformed but he could feel himself take a step or two back. His heart was racing again, pounding loudly in his head as he began to take a few deep breaths trying to calm his body down. He may of claimed to not fear Sabrina, even in her wolf form, but he was well aware the other half of him did.
Despite his body's initial panic, Sabers face fell into a defensive glare, keeping a close eye on Sabrina as she spoke, circling around him. He stood his ground and didn’t move, even when her tail brushed against him; A flash of annoyance on his face was the only recognition it got.
He listened to her now wolfish voice as he watched her carefully. At the end of her speech, and now facing him once more, Saber didn’t say anything; He simply glared deep into her yellow eyes with his now black looking ones as if he didn’t agree with her words.
