The Flower Maiden's Revenge (SP-RP 12)
Quote from Indy on August 28, 2019, 11:38 pmThe sun glittered cheerfully in the soft blues of the sky and the scattered remains of the previous night's rainstorm. Maybe, from just looking at the sky, you couldn't have known how wrong everything had gone. But you didn't need to look far -- the entire mountainside was a slick muddy slope, punctuated only by things that weren't where they should be. Theo could relate. He was also one of those things.
He sniffled a little, wiping a great, furry forearm against his blurry eyes. If he wasn't so tired, maybe he would have cried.. but he was so, impossibly tired. And still, there was far more they had to travel, and travel went better in his secondary form. He thought he might drop dead, and that gave him a kind of strength that stopped the tears from coming. Then as he brought his forearm back down, it brushed against the metal bit dangling to his ears, and the woe started up all over again !
He glanced for his fellow lost travelers, then again at the uneven mountainside. They didn't know where they were going, besides down. The flower maidens had seen to that much...

Quote from Mae on September 13, 2019, 1:06 amAnd so the journey might've continued, if not for the traveler's sudden and greatly unanticipated rupture through the forest! The trees were so terribly tight, and the forage so impossibly dense, that it could hardly be precedented - one moment they were breaking through branches, and the next they were stumbling into a wide open meadow.
The forest split right open, revealing a beautiful albeit mysterious landscape. The trees continued as far as the eye could see, circling around the spacious field in a wide circle. On the far end, some kind of cattle could be seen grazing. But though they were a great distance out, the emergence of strangers sent them quickly and quietly into the thicket on the opposite side of pasture. So it was that the traveler's found themselves standing in a completely quiet, completely desolate field.
Yet, it would appear they were not entirely alone... for there was smoke rising out of a small copse of trees in the right corner of the field.

Quote from Aim on September 14, 2019, 3:19 amAs Chime stumbled into the clearing, her main focus was keeping her balance. Once regained, she smiled at the simple task before looking up.
Taking it all in, she felt her smile slip, replaced with awe. It was..
“Levi! Theo! It’s flat!”
She called back, relieved she was no longer navigating the sloppy mountain terrain. Letting out a chuckle, she stared a little longer before flopping to ground. Sitting, she looked back, noting the fatigue.. They needed to get back home.
Ignoring the stings left by the branches and her arching muscles, she got up again, trying to find anything that was somewhat familiar.. It was then she noticed the smoke.
Pointing, she became more cautious.

Quote from Kaqurei on September 19, 2019, 6:55 amLevi, perhaps, was more suited for the kind of travel the mountain exacted out of the bodies of the three of them. But the storm had made him weary too. And something about those flowers from the previous. Ight had made his head feel stuffed with cotton, like a bad head cold. His judgement and sense of direction were off, and he didn't like it.
Even so, he knew the moment he spotted the cattle and the smoke that the last thing they needed to be right then was wolves.
"We should change," he said after a second, glancing at Chime and Theo each in turn and wishing he also meant their clothes. What a ragged lot they'd appear, even in human form! But, if they were lucky, they wouldn't be seen at all. Even human trespassers were unlikely to receive a warm welcome on a small farm... you could never be sure who you could trust, and sometimes a rifle did better inquiring.

Quote from Indy on September 19, 2019, 7:32 pmBy the time they were out on flat ground again, Theo's knees were trembling and his eyes were almost closing. He didn't even notice the mountains had fallen behind them until Chime had shouted it out. And for just that moment, he forgot how miserable he was. Then the smell of fire hit the air and all the suddenly it came crashing down on him.
A fire? In the woods? His brain seized at the implications, not knowing what it could be caused by, but suspecting it was Probably Bad. In addition, if they burned alive in some horrible blaze, then he'd never get to apologize to Toby for breaking his gadget.
With little more prompting required from Levi, Theo was only too happy to slip back onto two legs. He was still tired, and confused, and probably doomed. But at least he didn't have to heft around all the extra weight to do those things.

Quote from Kaqurei on October 8, 2019, 10:23 amLevi shifted from wolf to man as easily as one would stretch their arms and yawn. The transition was flawless. Until the end, when his ragged trousers nearly slipped from his newly lean and furless form. Red-faced, he caught the belt just in time to pull them up and tighten them before more than his Apollo dimples could be exposed. Ordinarily there was a bit more spring to the material so that it would keep to his shape whether he was a wolf or human... last night's abuse must have worn it beyond repair.
A little flustered, he glanced about at his companions. "Ey," he said, "Why don't the two o' yeh stay put here a moment. I'll scout ahead anae see about that fire."

Quote from Indy on October 8, 2019, 8:51 pmBehind the glazed, vacant expression of his green eyes, Theo thought many things.
The first was: Fire? What fire? Oh... that fire, the one they'd been talking about.
And then: Yes, Levi seems the responsible one to scout the fire.
Before finally settling on: No! Fires are bad, fires are dangerous. Fires aren't just ninja werewolf enemies. They were very obviously beyond the abilities of Levi's expert sneaking. Levi should not go alone. What if something happened, and no one knew because he went alone?
A little stutter of a protest tried to escape him, but before it could quite make it past the barrier of his lips, Levi was already gone. His legs gave a weak tremble. He turned to Chime, trying to read her take on the situation but not daring to voice his own concerns, in case this all, somehow made perfect sense and he just didn't realize it yet.

Quote from Aim on October 9, 2019, 2:17 amThough wary, Chime nodded, shifting back to human with ease. Looking back to her companions, she gave another small nod at Levi as he said he’d check out the fire, she’d had nothing but confidence in his abilities.
Slowly, she sat back down, and hugged her legs. The possibility of it being a wild fire hadn’t dawned on her, rather she worried over how the person responsible would react to the three of them wondering these parts alone.. especially if this was their property.
Looking over to Theo, she caught him searching for some clarity, so she smiled, “Don’t worry! Levi is awesome at this kind of thing.” She reassured, “He even taught me some of the basics.” She motioned for him to sit down, “We should rest while we can.”

Quote from Indy on October 10, 2019, 7:09 pmTheo shivered a little in the cold morning air, for the first time starkly aware he was now barechested and clothed in no more than ragged shorts. Almost absently, he made sure to tighten his belt again... before it got even worse (and he was trying hard not to think about worse). And then, sleepily blinking, he looked at Chime slowly... pressingly, painfully aware of her. And his bare-chestedness. He hunched his back slowly, bringing his arms to cross over his exposed torso and trying, very very hard, to act as though this was all very natural.
It was... wasn't it? As a werewolf, he didn't really care if they saw his furry chest. There was usually a lot of fur involved when you were a werewolf, so you learned not to pay much mind to a little bit more. And it was easier too, because it at least it was one less article of clothing you needed to figure out how to fit BOTH of your bodies. And... well, he hadn't had a chance to plan for a change of clothes. Chime would understand that. Wouldn't she? Of course..
Despite his best attempts, he was almost certain his face was going pink.
Then he looked to Chime, realizing she'd stopped speaking. And that he'd caught none of it. The slow, sinking feeling of horror fell upon him. Nevermind the literal wildfire, he had his own very dire crisis.
"Oh..." he responded, trying very hard to read her expression for some fleeting clue, "Yeah... that uh... makes sense...".

Quote from Kaqurei on November 6, 2019, 11:25 amLevi shivered slightly as he made his way, half-crouching, through the taller grass along the tree line towards the fire. He was hardly invisible, but he didn't suppose that the field was actively being watched, else there might have been warning shots fired when the cattle had been disturbed. Unless there was bigger trouble about than the motley three of them. His mind darted back to a secluded homestead, not so long ago... and the dangers that always lurked outside it. "Trust no one," was his mother's creed to keep them safe, and yet ultimately it led to her demise.
He glanced over his shoulder and was pleased to see that he could not see Theo and Chime. They had cover, then. Good.
Ahead then. Towards the smoke. It wasn't from a chimney, he surmised by the smell and the thin trail. Campfire, then. Seemed odd for a rancher to camp overnight up back a leap. Perhaps if he were moving the cattle to better grazing land... still, seemed odd for this time of the year. His heart started pounding with a familiar life, a renewed vigor as he strayed further from friends and closer to the unknown. Just what was camping in that little copse of trees, if not a rancher?
