In The Melodies and The Memories (CA - Saber & Ulric)

Lee’s eyes darted straight for the fence gate to examine it- At Ulric’s height he might be able to tippy toe just enough to get out but there’s no way he’d be able to reach the latch to close the gate back up, thus leaving evidence of his departure from the yard.

The gate latch appeared untouched; left in exactly the same condition as aforementioned without any evidence of tampering.

With some level of assurance the boy was still in the yard, Lee took a sweeping glance around, but without hearing movement before, suspected the boy might still remain in the bushes. After looking around his eyes settled back at the bush the boy was last seen under, examining it closely to see if he could catch a glimpse of him simply deeper in the leaves.

The bush, and in particular the little nook between the fence and the hedge where the boy once sat, was without a blond-haired presence. But upon close inspection, one might find that the enchanted world into which Ulric attempted to lead Lee, was not without an equally magical portal - For, there existed behind the hedge a small crawl-space: a tunnel of bramble that led along the fence-line with only one entry point - and that entry point was the little nook where Ulric was last seen.

Lee grumbled, unable to find the boy from atop the lookout, and began to descend the stairs to continue his search in greater detail. As he approached the opening into the quiet world under the bush he called out the boy's name.

" Ulric," he said, making sure to not sound upset, or else the child might go farther into his hiding place and be impossible to find.

There came no answer behind the hedge… instead, the quiet rustling of leaves and the hum-buzz of small wings could be heard.

Without the reassurance of a response back Lee began to look worried.

" Ulric! Where are you?" He called again with concern, now looking onward at the row of bushes trying to catch a glimpse of movement somewhere beyond all the leaves.

There was once again no reply. The green hedges were tightly grown and thick all around the fence-line. Yet, what was that? Was it a sound, or a movement behind the hedge on the far back of the yard? Nothing could be seen or heard in that direction.

Lee began to follow the hedges along the fence towards the back. “ Ulric,” he now whispered, as he kept his eyes steadily on the bushes for movement.

No movement was readily seen… yet, as Lee approached the back of the yard, a small creature appeared and disappeared abruptly between the branches. It was a tiny little sparrow hopping deeper into the hedge.
