In The Melodies and The Memories (CA - Saber & Ulric)

Now it was Lee's turn to resist which wasn't hard with his older kid strength.

" What are you doing? You're going to get hurt and then I'll be in trouble for it.." Lee grumbled as he held the boy's hand tightly so he could not proceed any further, now trying to spy into the darkness to see just what had caught the boy's interest to even attempt to go below the large bushes in the first place.

The little boy did not relent. He pulled Lee's hand, urging him to join him in his little hiding place. He offered no explanation for his persistence, yet persisted all the same.

With the persistent pull on his arm, Lee turned to see if anyone was around in the other surrounding yards to see him. Upon not noticing anyone he crawled over a little closer to the boy but stopped short of going under the bush as he was a bit too large to fit.

At last fully submerged, and with Lee closing the rest of the light out, darkness fully surrounded the two boys. It took a moment for the details to come back, but when they did, Ulric was found sitting on his heels with his knees near his face. He looked quite content at Lee. Then he smiled up at the forest over his head, and the bug world under his shoes. The civilians of this world were all scurrying away from the invaders, among them was a rather large beetle which went loitering off into the grand detritus of the bush roots. It amused Ulric, who watched it go with a grin. Under the vibrant green leaves, the world was quiet, being muffled out. It was cooler as well, and the empty space of earth under Ulric's feet was just his size.

Lee watched Ulric and his amusement at the beetle for only a moment before letting go of his hand and getting up, brushing off his pants to remove the dirt and grass that clinged to them now.

The little boy stayed under the bush, even as the big boy got up to dust himself off.

Lee watched the boy under the bush for a moment before grumbling. “ If you’re going to stay down there, just be careful of red ants and branches and.. stuff.”

With that, the older boy turned away to find something more interesting to do.

Ulric watched Lee go, silently frowning at his little green world. But he stayed under the bushes, and did not come out.

Lee made his way through the tall grass around the swings and up the stairs into the lookout. From there, he began looking around at the surrounding neighbor’s yards. He watched a small terrier barking off in the distance, before eyeing other children playing together in another yard, leaning against the railing his chin in hand beginning to look miserable again. Although he had been listening in Ulric’s direction in case the boy decided to move, after a moment he took a glance to confirm the boy was still under the bush and hadn’t moved far.

But when Lee looked, Ulric had disappeared. The little nook in the hedge where Lee last saw him was vacant. The boy was gone.
