Coyotes Run (CA - Zander & Matthew)
Quote from Deleted user on October 30, 2021, 1:24 amMatthew turned upon hearing the person enter the house. Snicker doodles! He had hoped he would have more time than that. The instinct to run surfaced but he stayed in place, continuing to make himself at home stuffing another even larger bite of the blueberry pancake into his mouth.
..Maybe if his mouth was full he wouldn't have to explain what he was doing- or explain anything else for that matter.

Quote from Indy on November 3, 2021, 8:39 pmThe footsteps came nearer, clacking down the hall like a solemn fore-bearer to ominous tidings - only for their owner to round the corner, and find the ominous bearer was a slender, young woman.
She wore a pair of dirt-stained overalls and gardening gloves. She still clutched a trowel in one hand, and a freshly picked white rose in the other. She wore long-sleeves beneath her overalls, and an oversized gardening hat that almost entirely engulfed her face. Most curiously of all was her hair - stark-white as snow, and the pinkish hue of her delicate cheeks. She set the white rose on the table, then removed her sun hat. As she glanced upwards, meeting Matthew's eyes, she did not seem in the least startled to find a boy with half a blueberry pancake shoveled in his mouth. Although he may have been surprised to meet the eyes of a woman with pale pink eyes.
"Oh hullo. You must be Matthew. I'm Megan. It's nice to meet you".

Quote from Deleted user on November 7, 2021, 12:53 amMatthew chewed and swallowed. " I like it like this," he said quietly as he put the last small piece in his mouth and grabbed for a second pancake. Then he took another bite into what he already had in his mouth and stood there awkwardly as he chewed.

Quote from Indy on November 8, 2021, 6:47 pmMegan made a sound in the back of her throat halfway between amusement and disagreement. Yet rather than object directly, she simply said without trace of irony in her voice, "Well, there's some orange juice in the fridge if you'd like anything to wash it down with".
And just like that, she went out the back patio door so she could return the trowel to the shed. A short while later, the young woman returned - this time grabbing the single white rose that had been left on the counter. She hummed to herself as she went to retrieve a dainty, chipped porcelain vase, filled it with water, and delicately set the rose inside. The rose perfumed the air; to Megan's human sensibilities, it was rather pleasant. Yet perhaps to Matthew, the scent might be overwhelming.
"It's almost lunchtime, you know. If you're still hungry, I'm sure I could make a sandwich".

Quote from Deleted user on November 20, 2021, 1:57 amMatthew shook his head. " No, that's okay." He responded as he was working on eating his forth pancake. After he tossed the last bite in his mouth, he turned to leave. " I gotta go," he said awkwardly as he glanced over to the young woman, and then began walking towards where he assumed the front door was from where he had heard Megan first come in from.

Quote from Indy on November 21, 2021, 5:38 pm"Where you headed to?" Megan asked mildly, moving to the sink and beginning to scrub some of the cooking dishes from that morning.
She turned to watch him approach the door from the corner of her eyes, before averting them shyly, "I only ask because.. well, it gets pretty hot to travel mid-day on foot, wouldn't want you getting heat stroke out there. We don't really have buses that'll take you to a train station. If you can wait a little while, I'm sure my dad could be persuaded to drop you off somewhere convenient - and well, it's really no rush, not for us. You're welcome to stay as long as you like".

Quote from Deleted user on December 5, 2021, 10:28 pmMatthew paused to peer out the window as Megan spoke. He could see the sun's rays as it engulfed the land and buildings outside. He grumbled under his breath as Megan explained her family would be happy to help him. Once silence fell, a moment past before he opened the front door anyways and headed outside.
Where the house casted shade Matthew sat now, backpack next to him huddled up with knees to chest, as he solemnly watched the land and sky around him.

Quote from Indy on December 14, 2021, 7:28 pmMegan did not turn as Matthew left, although there was an artifice to her ease. She had turned her face downwards as she worked her sudsy fingers on the dishes. Sometimes the hardest thing to do, Megan found, was to do nothing. Yet that was exactly what she would do - at least for a little while. Give the boy some quiet time to think, and if she still found him out there in an hour during her gardening rounds, then she'd see if she could coax him inside.
Megan could only hope she would find him there in an hour.
